15/04/2019

Tencent's (0700) smart innovation business unit InLab is looking at launching an e-sport cell-phone, according to mainland media reports.

The phone would use a Qualcomm CPU with hardware from original equipment manufacturers, the reports said, adding that Tencent is in talks with ASUS, Razer (1337), Wentai Technology and Black Shark for the project. The phone might be co-branded, but no launch date or price was mentioned in the reports.

Taiwan media had reported in February that ASUS was looking at launching a mobile phone with Tencent for 5,000 yuan (HK$5,857).

Razer announced last month that it will collaborate with Tencent to develop hardware, software and service business and its technology may be used in Tencent's mobile games.

Tencent's and Razer's shares rose 0.61 percent to HK$ 393.8 and 4.35 percent to HK$1.92 respectively on Friday.
