Technologists in Hong Kong now have an opportunity to get a world-recognized certification in financial technology through a nine-month training and examination.

The Institute of Financial Technologists Asia has introduced to Hong Kong a Certificate in Finance and Technology course, which offers training to people performing technology roles in the financial services sector.

The course aims to enable enrollees to keep abreast with the global digital transformation.

The CFT program is divided into three levels that provide training in areas, including block chain, cybersecurity and big data. Upon successful completion of online courses, candidates will sit for examinations, set every six months in March and September, at Cyberport.

Paul Pong, IFTA founder and managing director of Pegasus Fund, said the program aims to address the short supply of fintech professionals in the financial services industry.

Wilson Kwok, IFTA co-founder and managing director of LKKC CPA Ltd, said the CFT program could produce about 150 qualified fintech professionals every year.
