Melco International Development (0200) is looking at entering the Japanese market, as the country offers huge potential for tourism.

Chairman Lawrence Ho Yau Lung said that while Macau attracted 33 million visitors in 2017, Japan recorded only 29 million tourists, which means there is room for growth. He said mainland visitors have accounted for 60 percent of the total visitors to Japan in the past five years, and predicted that the number of mainlanders who travel overseas would reach 120 million by 2025.

He said that Macau's gaming revenue is expected to rise 15 percent this year and that Melco will open a new 800-room hotel in Macao on June 15.
