HKT Trust and HKT (6823) announced its net profit rose 8 percent year-on-year to HK$5.22 billion in 2019, while a final distribution of HK$40.37 cents was declared. It also announced it will launch 5G services in April.
The earnings per share was HK$68.91 cents and annual distribution rose 3.06 percent to HK$70.38 cents.
Revenue fell 5.92 percent to HK$33.1 billion in 2019. Total revenue excluding mobile product sales increased 1 percent to HK$29.7 billion. EBITDA rose 2 percent year-on-year to HK$12.8 billion due to increases in operating efficiency.
Revenue generated from telecommunication support services rose 1 percent to HK$21.95 billion as of 31 December 2019. The EBITDA profit margin was rose from 37.7 percent in 2018 to 38.1 percent in 2019.
Mobile revenue was down 16 percent to HK$11.8 billion while revenue from mobile services went up 2 percent to HK$8.4 billion. The ARPU rose 1 percent to HK$200. Post-paid customer base increased slightly to 3.25 million and the total number of customers rose 8 percent to 4.68 million.
The group will be the first Hong Kong 5G operator.
5G services not only provide more data and cheaper plan but also allow broadcasting the UEFA EURO 2020 with virtual reality, cooperated with Now TV, Susanna Hui, group managing director said. For early adopters, the group will offer consumer applications in VR and AR, gaming and other immersive content in April.
