Korea's 5G twice as fast, admits Huawei
China's 5G network speed is only half that of South Korea's, a top Huawei executive said. Ding Yun, the executive director and chief executive of the Carrier BG at Huawei, admitted the speed of China's 5G network is relatively slow, while attending the opening of 2020 PT Expo China on Wednesday. He said download speeds in China were only around 270MBPS on average, while those in South Korea were 600 MBPS. Yun said the 5G network in South Korea was widespread and the penetration rate of 5G users in South Korea was 25 percent as of September, while the rate in China was only 8 percent. Meanwhile, semiconductor manufacturer SMIC (0981) revised its third quarter revenue upwards by 14-16 percent quarter-on-quarter as compared to the original guidance of an increase of 1-3 percent due to changes in product mix and increase in other operating income. Gross margins were also revised upwards by 23-25 percent as compared to 19-21 percent.
